Is your menstrual cycle an asset or a liability?

Does your menstrual cycle feel like an asset, or a liability?

‘An asset puts money in my pocket. A liability takes money out of my pocket.’ - Robert T. Kiyosaki

We can totally swap the word money for energy when thinking about the cycle. And if your reality now is that you’re experiencing heavy pain, bleeding, strong PMS or other menstrual symptoms, you may well feel like its a liability that’s draining you of your life and energy.

But (and you know me, I can’t help but be the holder of the unpopular opinion!) I happen to think (and have seen) that the cycle is in fact an asset.

The thing about a cycle is, that it’s a cycle! And while it might seem like you’re on a merry-go-round of pain/no pain, PMS/no PMS or whatever else it is you’re dealing with, the very fact that it’s a cycle means that there is a beginning and an end. And wherever there’s an ending, it means there’s an opportunity as the new beginning comes in.

This mindset is so important when it comes to working on your cycle. Because instead of feeling victimised by it, you can actively work with it. Every phase comes back around and with it the opportunity to remedy what needs to be remedied.

And, it also means that instead of berating yourself for not implementing that thing you read on social media during your bleed, or getting in more exercise during a certain part of your cycle, you can give yourself grace. Because guess what?

You’ll have another chance!

What seems like a liability - ugh, my period is due again already - can become my period is due, so what can I do this time to help myself?

It’s a step by step approach that takes into account the fact that sometimes, life happens. Motivations wane. Good intentions fall by the wayside. And, sometimes things just take time.

Having the mindset that every single cycle is a fresh opportunity to start again or deepen what you’re already doing. And that is something that can give you energy at times when you want to give up. It can give you motivation and drive and meaning.

🌼 That means we can recoup the remembrance of or bring healing to our maiden years and it’s expression in inner spring, every single time

🌞 We can relish in the pleasure and abundance of the mother/queen of inner summer

🌙 We can integrate the clarity of the wild woman and inner autumn.

🔮And we can welcome in the wisdom of the crone and inner winter

And that is pretty epic. In fact, it’s one of the things that made me realise just how special it is to be a woman. Because men don’t have this opportunity. We do. It can help us to appreciate having a menstrual cycle in a whole new way, even the parts we don’t like.
