Bleed Box - what is it and why should you have one?
Imagine this: You’re on your period and you’re feeling a bit low. Maybe you’ve got a craving for your favourite chocolate but forgot to buy some last time you went shopping.
Now imagine that you’ve got a little box stashed away somewhere, that’s filled with things to help you feel like a Period Goddess. That’s a Bleed Box.
A Bleed Box is the ultimate act of cyclical self-care.
We all know periods aren’t always easy. So doing whatever we can to help make ourselves feel good during this time is important. So important, that introducing a Bleed Box is something I do with clients - especially if their periods are a particularly tough time in the cycle.
How much more appealing would your period be, if you knew it would come with a selection of your favourite things? Having a Bleed Box is a very simple strategy that can do a whole lot to change your period experience. It doesn’t have to be a box. It can be a drawer, a basket, a cupboard or a shelf. The main thing is, that it’s filled with supplies to support and delight you on your period.
Here are some ideas of what to fill yours with to get you started:
Period undies or menstrual cup (clean, of course)
Your favourite chocolate (mine is 70% dark chocolate with sea-salt - yum!)
Incense
Essential oils
Body oil for self-massage
A piece of jewellery you only wear while bleeding
A book to read
A candle
Special tea
Crystals
Tarot/oracle deck
Affirmation cards
If your box is a cupboard or a drawer, even something bigger like your favourite snuggly blanket
A red pen to journal with
Art supplies to draw with
A period journal
And whatever else you feel drawn to. The contents of your box might change over time as you refine what you want inside of it.
The only important thing? Make sure you re-stock it before your next period is due!
There’s not much worse than opening your box to find it empty. Schedule it into your calendar or add items to your shopping list so you don’t forget. This is a way to really up your self-care by doing something for your Future Self. She’ll thank you for it!
What will you be putting into your bleed box?
