The ‘other’ summer archetype: The Queen

Have you ever felt that juicy, surge of magnetism and attraction that seems to come from nowhere a couple of weeks after your period? That juice is your inner summer. And its the home of your Inner Queen.

The Queen: a feminine archetype that represents your inner summer.

If summer is about being in full expression, being seen, luxuriating in warmth and taking to enjoy, then The Queen is a representation of that in human form. For me, my Queen vibe is all about taking time off (helloooo, holiday), swimming naked in lakes, indulging in delicious food, appreciating a chilled glass of rose, spending heaps of intimate time with my love, enjoying long walks in the sunshine with my dog and catching up with friends. The Queen is all about pleasure - whatever pleasure means to you.

This isn't about being an egoist. Far, far from it. Archetypes, devised by Carl Jung, are deep, deep rooted forms of human behaviour and knowledge that are embedded in our psyche. Most books and learnings on Menstrual Cycle Awareness talk about The Mother as the archetype for summer/ovulation. But you might not resonate with that for many reasons. And even if you do, we all know the stereotype of the Mother who puts everything and everything ahead of herself, leaving her burnt out- which can represent itself as yet another archetype: The Martyr.

The Queen, is all about directing that energy we dish out in out inner summer back towards ourselves.

It's about remembering who the heck you are, that you're worthy and important. It's about refilling your tank and enjoying life because, why not? It's about expressing yourself and declaring yourself in the world - which is the work of your inner summer. Because when you’re full of energy, pleasure and are feeling amazing in your skin instead of cranky, burnt out and pissed off because you’re the one who always has to do everything, life is much better for you and those around you.

And what if you're someone who feels crap during ovulation, like I used to (read my menstrual journey for more on that)? Well, this is even more important. So much about cyclical living is about balance, and most of us do not live a balanced life. If you're finding yourself exhausted a couple weeks before/after your period, chances are you're in need of a bloody good rest and this is a good way to incorporate it.

What does your Queen look like? How does she move? What her favourite smells and sounds and colours. What textures does she love? Who does she like to spend her time with? Put the to-do list away and spend time with yourself to find out.

It'll be worth it.
