Why should you work with a Menstrual Cycle Coach?

How old were you when you started your period? 14? 15? Older? Younger? Considering that having a menstrual cycle is an integral part of your life, you might be wondering why on earth you’d need a coach to help you with it. And the truth is, in a perfect world, you wouldn’t. Ideally, you’d have been told well before your period arrived what it was, that it wasn’t dangerous or cause for worry. You’d have been initiated into your womanhood. You’d have been told how to understand your cycle and the way your body, mind, heart and soul ebb and flow as you move through it. You’d have been told that having a cycle allows you to tap into the power of creativity and intuition. That it brings you closer to the cycles of nature - spring, summer, autumn and winter, birth, life and death. You’d have been told how to eat, live, work and love in a way that supports and makes the most of your womb and hormones.

But this isn’t a perfect world.

Instead, you’ve been told close to nothing about your cycle. You might not even know exactly what the word ‘cycle’ means. You might think you can get pregnant every day and have no idea at all about how certain herbs and practices can ease discomfort and pain. You were probably told in some way, that having a period was dirty. That it smelled and was painful. You might have tucked a sanitary pad or tampon up your sleeve at work or school to save the embarrassment of anyone knowing you were bleeding.

It’s a lot to unpack. And we humans are resilient creatures. We make do and put up with, and go about our daily lives, forgetting things in our minds. You might not even remember some of the period embarrassments that happened to you when you were younger, or you tell yourself that, just because you don’t get excruciating cramps when you bleed, that everything is fine with your cycle. Except, you find yourself flying high one day and feeling super low the next, leaving you feeling inconsistent. Or you’re spinning countless plates and running on a hamster wheel, feeling constantly frazzled without getting much done. Your relationships feel stuck in a self-repeating patten that isn’t serving you and you feel like at least four different people throughout the month.

You’ve tried diets and ‘failed’ to stick to them.

You’ve tried workout plans and ‘failed’ to stick at them.

You’ve been taking the pill and feel dull inside.

You feel disconnected from your intuition, creativity and feminine essence.

A menstrual cycle coach isn’t here to make your cycle perfect, because the truth is, there’s no such thing. The textbook 28 day cycle with a four day bleed and a turned on ovulation just isn’t the reality for so many of us. There’s so much in between - phases of hope and playfulness, love and compassion, rage and wildness and intuition and insight. A menstruality coach is there to help you discover and navigate them, so that you can live your life in a way that’s as supportive as possible. Working with a coach helps you to uncover hidden blockages and work out ways to clear them. It creates a space where you can be unapologetically you, where you can show up exactly as you are and talk about things you might not be able to with anyone else.

A menstrual cycle coach is like the reassurance of a candle flame, shedding light and creating warmth so that YOU can find your way in the dark.
