From a free-spirit in Paris to mum of two in rural Australia - Mum’s Talk with Rebecca Hurtrel
When I decided to start my podcast, I knew I wanted to have episodes where I chat with real mums about their motherhood experience because sharing helps us heal, feel inspired and connected. So I’m super excited to share the very first of these series of chats, kicking off with my long-time friend Rebecca Hurtrel, who went from living a travel-filled, spontaneous life between Paris and London to becoming a mum of two in rural Australia.
From Nomadic Life to Motherhood
When Becca found out she was pregnant with her first child, she was commuting between the UK and France every week. Moving full-time to France, navigating a different medical system, and adjusting to a new reality as a mum was a huge shift - one she wasn’t entirely prepared for.
We talk about what it was like to have her first baby in France, the differences between the healthcare systems in France and Australia, and how she felt leaving behind her previous life.
What Changes When You Have a Second Child?
A lot of mums wonder: How do people do it with two?! Becca shares how the transition from one to two kids was both easier and harder in unexpected ways. With a four-year age gap, her eldest naturally took on the role of big brother, but raising two energetic boys still comes with its challenges.
We also chat about:
- The reality of balancing work, parenting, and personal time
- Letting go of mum guilt and embracing a village
- The surprising lessons of motherhood like dealing with unsolicited advice from strangers!
A Reminder That You Don’t Have to Do It All Alone
One of Becca’s biggest lessons from motherhood is the power of allowing others to love and support your child. She shares how she’s intentionally built a ‘village’ around her family, ensuring her kids have deep relationships with family and trusted loved ones.
If you’re a mum navigating your own identity shift, struggling with balance, or just need some reassurance that you don’t have to do it all alone, this episode is for you.
