Why having kids is amazing!

If you’ve read the previous post, you’ll have read about the hard stuff and why having kids can be absolutely exhausting, frustrating, and overwhelming. This week, I want to balance it out with the incredible, heartwarming reasons why parenthood is the most rewarding journey of all.

Motherhood is full of challenges, but it’s also filled with magic. It’s a paradox for sure - one moment, you’re covered in baby sick and dreaming of a full night’s sleep, and the next, your heart is bursting with love because your child just looks with adoration. It’s messy, beautiful, and absolutely life-changing. Here’s why having kids is amazing (for me at least!).

1. You become a new person

One of the biggest reasons why having kids is amazing? You don’t stay the same. Motherhood is a metamorphosis, just like a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. You’re still you, but the way you see the world, the things that matter to you, and how you show up in life all shift in profound ways. This process, called matrescence, is just as significant as adolescence. It’s intense, but ultimately, it shapes you into the best version of yourself.

2. Time management superpowers

Before having kids, I had no idea how much time I wasted. I’d spend an entire morning doing what I can now accomplish in 30 minutes. Parenthood forces you to be efficient, to cut out the fluff, and to focus only on what truly matters. It’s a gift I never expected, but one that I now cherish.

3. A crash course in compassion

Watching a tiny human navigate life teaches you so much about patience, grace, and perseverance. The way children keep trying, even when they stumble again and again, is a lesson in resilience. It’s helped me to be kinder to myself, to extend the same compassion I show my son to my own mistakes and struggles.

4. New friendships and unexpected connections

Motherhood has introduced me to people I never would have met otherwise. Whether it’s through baby groups, playdates, or just chatting with another mum in a coffee shop, having kids creates an instant bond. It makes making new friends as an adult so much easier!

5. Working on yourself

Parenting is like holding up a mirror to yourself. It forces you to confront your fears, your past, and your habits. It’s tough, but it’s also an incredible opportunity for growth. Through therapy, self-reflection, and conscious effort, I’ve been able to break old patterns and become the kind of mother I want to be.

6. The little moments

At the end of the day, it’s the tiny things that make parenthood extraordinary. The way your child looks at you like you’re their entire world. The uncontrollable giggles. The pride in their eyes when they accomplish something new. It’s these moments that make the sleepless nights and chaotic days absolutely worth it.

Motherhood isn’t easy, but it’s one of the most fulfilling experiences life has to offer.
